COVID Update - 11/13/2020 Announcement

With the numbers where they are, and projected to go, we have made the difficult decision to pivot to K-8 full distance learning beginning Monday, November 30th (after Thanksgiving).  From there, we plan to stay in distance learning until January 11th as already planned, but will be monitoring numbers to ensure that we feel we can properly manage a safe return to school.

Announcement of Fall 2020 Back to School Plan

Dear COS Families:

As I mentioned in a previous update a task force comprised of staff, leaders, and parents has been working diligently throughout the summer on a plan to safely welcome our students back to campus. I'd like to express my deepest gratitude to this group of individuals who took on the Herculean effort of ensuring we could continue living our mission while prioritizing the safety of our students, staff, and families while also providing a quality educational experience.

To deliver a quality educational experience as well as protect the health and wellness of the community we serve, it was important for us to consider diverse input and guidance from a multitude of sources including the Archdiocese, Catholic Schools Center of Excellence, Greater MN Schools, and Achievement Network, throughout our planning process. The below plan was designed to address our unique needs and constraints, prioritizing safety, academics, and the overall experience of our students, families, and staff.

At the start of the school year, in accordance with the recommendation made by Governor Walz we plan to adopt a hybrid learning model as follows:

  • Preschool: In-person attendance, exclusively
  • K-1: In-person 5 days per week with full distance learning option
  • Grades 2-8: Hybrid model with full distance learning option

We have dedicated staff in place to support our transition to this new model with teams focused exclusively on maintaining an engaging virtual learning experience as well as redesigning our physical space to accommodate CDC recommended safety protocols.

Additionally, through grants and partnerships we’ve made significant investments in technology and innovation to promote and sustain an inclusive learning environment. We’re deploying a technology solution that streamlines the teaching experience and allows virtual learners to participate in real-time along with their classmates for core subjects. An integrated system that includes hi-definition speakers, voice-activated lesson capture and device control,  a virtual whiteboard, and learning software enables our school to offer continuous learning for all our students regardless of their environment whether in the physical classroom or at home.

To support this transition, each of our teachers are undergoing training and working hard to adopt this new technology into their classroom. In addition, we’re happy to announce that each student will have access to their own Chromebook.

Below is important information regarding our school reopening plan.  Please be sure to read through its entirety!

Thank you for choosing Community of Saints as a partner to provide your students with high quality educational experience, driven by the pillars of faith, inclusivity and love.
